About
James David "J.D." Vance is the 50th vice president of the United States (since January 20, 2025) and previously served as a U.S. senator from Ohio (January 3, 2023–January 10, 2025). He is a Marine Corps veteran and is known nationally as the author of the memoir "Hillbilly Elegy" (2016). Vance earned a B.A. from Ohio State University and a J.D. from Yale Law School, and worked as a lawyer and venture capitalist before entering elected office.
