A new InsiderAdvantage poll released May 1 shows Rick Jackson at 28 percent and Burt Jones at 24 percent among likely Republican primary voters for Georgia governor. No candidate reached 50 percent support, which points to a runoff after the May 19 primary. The survey of 800 likely voters conducted April 28-29 carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percent.

Jackson and Jones remain locked in a statistical tie at the top

Jackson, the billionaire healthcare executive who entered the race in February, holds the narrow edge in the poll. Jones, the lieutenant governor endorsed by President Trump, sits just behind. The two candidates have traded leads in earlier surveys from Quantus Insights, Cygnal and Remington Research this month, according to aggregates on RealClearPolling. Their combined support leaves little room for the rest of the field to force a different outcome.

Brad Raffensperger trails at 18 percent while Chris Carr stands at 11 percent. Twelve percent of voters remain undecided. These numbers match the pattern seen across multiple May polls, where Jackson and Jones consistently occupy the top two spots and the race stays fluid.

Runoff appears almost certain under current trends

Georgia law requires a majority to win the nomination outright. With four candidates splitting the vote and no one above 30 percent, the June 16 runoff between the top two finishers looks probable. Early voting for that contest would begin June 8. The primary itself is set for May 19, with results expected that night.

The structure of the race favors candidates who can consolidate support quickly after May 19. Jackson has poured more than $30 million of his own money into television advertising. Jones relies on his Trump endorsements and roughly $3.9 million in contributions. Carr leads external fundraising at about $4.9 million. Raffensperger has raised $864,000 plus roughly $5 million in self-funding.

Full field shows limited room for late movement

Eight candidates appear on the Republican ballot. Only the four listed above register above single digits in recent surveys. The remaining four candidates have not broken through in any public polling released this spring. Their combined share sits below the undecided total in the InsiderAdvantage sample.

Recent aggregates confirm the same ordering. Jackson maintains a slim lead over Jones while Raffensperger and Carr fight for third place. The pattern has held steady through the final weeks before voting begins.

Voters will decide the nominee on May 19. If no candidate clears 50 percent, the top two advance to the June 16 runoff.
