State Sen. Greg Dolezal filed an emergency lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court seeking court-ordered access to Georgia's election-night reporting center ahead of the May 19 primary. The suit targets Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and demands real-time monitoring by credentialed observers and State Election Board members. Dolezal, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, argues the step will enforce public oversight of tabulation and reporting.

Lawsuit Seeks Immediate Court Order

The filing requests a temporary restraining order and writ of mandamus. These tools would open the center to live observation of verification and reporting steps. Co-plaintiffs Chris Mora, a congressional candidate, and Keli Gambrill, a Cobb County commission candidate, joined the action.

Critics have long called the facility the bunker because of its restricted access. Dolezal's complaint cites Georgia law that requires election activities to occur in public view. The suit was filed days before voters head to the polls on May 19.

Raffensperger Rejects the Claims

Raffensperger stated that votes are not counted inside the Emergency Operations Center. He said the actual work takes place at the county level across the state. The secretary accused Dolezal of seeking press attention and additional votes in the lieutenant governor race.

Raffensperger added that he expects to prevail in court once again. He has faced multiple legal challenges during his time in office. The response came through campaign channels and social media posts.

Transparency Push Ties to 2020 Record

Dolezal described the lawsuit as a straightforward effort to increase accountability. He referenced Georgia's legal standards for open election processes. The candidate also pointed to lingering concerns from the 2020 cycle to justify closer scrutiny in 2026.

The action highlights Raffensperger's dual role as secretary of state and governor candidate. This arrangement mirrors earlier dual-role situations, including that of Gov. Brian Kemp. Observers note the potential for perceived conflicts when one official oversees elections while seeking higher office.

The governor primary features four leading Republicans: Rick Jackson, Burt Jones, Chris Carr and Raffensperger. Dolezal's separate bid for lieutenant governor places him in the same May 19 contest. A runoff, if required, would occur June 16.

The Fulton County court could issue a ruling before polls close today. Any order would determine whether observers gain entry to the reporting center for tonight's results.
